Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy treatment with Rob Kelly, at the
Cambridge Hypnotherapy Clinic
Hypnosis has
been in use for thousands of years. There is a great deal of evidence to
support the belief that Hypnosis was being used by the Ancient Greeks and
Romans - for therapeutic benefit - as far back as about the fourth Century
BC.
Hypnosis - coming from the Greek word 'Hypnos' (meaning sleep) was
so-called because while in the state of Hypnosis, a person is very, very
relaxed. While a person is in this more relaxed state, they find it easier
to accept beneficial suggestions (e.g. "you are now a nonsmoker")
and their memory is enhanced.
There is absolutely no question of being controlled or manipulated, or even
induced into a deep trance state. A person in hypnosis (often referred to
as conscious hypnosis) is not 'asleep'; they are often more aware of what
is taking place than usual and their senses function more efficiently than
normal.
It is unfortunate that most people's perception of Hypnosis is tainted by
their reaction to watching television and stage hypnotists at work. The
'showmanship' and the dramatic reactions from the 'volunteers' often leaves
a lasting impression in the back of the mind that Hypnosis is somehow 'magical'
or involves 'mind control' - however, this understanding of Hypnosis couldn't
be further from the truth....
The state of hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is most pleasant and
particularly relaxing, and a person can converse quite easily whilst within
the state. It is inconceivable that any harm could befall them. Indeed,
the centuries-old technique of hypnosis is being used increasingly as an
adjunct to orthodox medicine, where it is proving a valuable alternative
to drugs for anesthesia, accelerating healing, relieving stress and controlling
pain.
A good definition of hypnosis is: A state of relaxation and concentration
at one with a heightened awareness induced by suggestion.
Rob will use his voice to induce you into the state of hypnosis. Although you
are unlikely to feel 'hypnotised' as such, you will probably experience
a feeling of mental and physical relaxation, and your memory may be enhanced.
You will find that Rob isa caring professional person, with a reassuring
manner to put you at ease, and the expertise to help you with your problem.

The treatments..
There are TWO entirely different types of hypnotherapy that Rob practises:
SUGGESTION HYPNOTHERAPY
(sometimes called 'clinical hypnosis')
Suggestion therapy, is 'normal' hypnotherapy. When hypnotherapy is mentioned in the press, and on TV, this is the type of hypnotherapy they are referring to.
Suggestion therapy is exactly as is sounds: you will be relaxed into a very light hypnotic state (most people don't even feel 'hypnotised') and whilst you are in this lovely, calm relaxed state, Rob will give you some very positively-worded suggestions that will effect whatever symptom(s) you are consulting him for. As well as the positive suggestions, you will be taught how to visualise the outcome you desire, and given strategies to think and act more positively.
e.g. If you are consulting for driving test nerves, you will be given suggestions such as 'you are going to feel calm, relaxed and in full control, during your driving test'. Rob will guide you through your driving test (whilst you are in the hypnotic state) getting you to practice your driving skills in a calm and relaxed way - effectively you are 'rehearsing' the outcome that you DESIRE (passing your test in a relaxed way) rather than 'worrying about what might go wrong'!
On leaving the session (usually only one session is needed) you will be feeling very positive, calm and relaxed, and feeling very differently towards whatever situation or event you were consulting for.
Suggestion therapy has short-term effects (usually lasting a few weeks to a few months) and hence isn't really a life-changing therapy. It IS incredibly powerful, and can be incredibly effective, but usually just for a few weeks. For this reason, this type of therapy is ideally suited to treating the more simple problems and symtoms such as stopping smoking, exam nerves, nail
biting, pre-test nerves, slimming (for long-term weight reduction or weight issues, the other type of hypnotherapy is recommended - see below), flying anxiety, general relaxation, confidence boosting, wedding speech nerves, dentist nerves etc.
Suggestion therapy is usually effective immediately, and hence only one
or sometimes two sessions would be required.
A suggestion therapy session costs just 75 pounds, and takes about one hour.

The other type of hypnotherapy that Rob practises, is called:
HYPNOANALYSIS
(sometimes known as analytical hypnotherapy)
'Hypnoanalysis' basically means 'analytical techniques or procedures used in conjunction with hypnosis'. This can be a combination of psychotherapy, psycho-analysis and other regression type techniques. Hypnoanalysis, unlike suggestion therapy, IS a life-changing therapy, as it can remove the underlying cause of a persons problems/symptoms/anxieties - freeing them from the symptoms, permanently.
Over the last twently years or so, the name Hypnoanalysis has become a little 'generic'. As more and more hypnotherapy schools and organisations appear, true, or 'pure' hypnoanalysis (the most effective form of therapy in the world) has become weakened and diluted - in some cases, to nothing more than a few minor techniques (of questionable effectiveness).
Rob, however, was lucky enough to have trained with the largest group of hypnoanalysts in the world - The IAPH (www.successfulhypnotherapy.com) - an organisation dedicated to the practice of effective hypnoanalysis.
Over the last fifteen years or so, Rob has further developed the hypnoanalysis skills he was taught, into an amazingly powerful form of hypnoanalysis, that he has called 'Pure Hypnoanalysis'. Basically, he took out all the techniques that either didn't work, or were not very effective, and replaced them with tried and tested successful psychotherapeutic interventions. Since Rob is now the Director of The IAPH (the school that taught him) he has now passed on his Pure Hypnoanalysis skills to all IAPH Members.
As far as IAPH research shows, there is a no more fast, effective and enliberating therapy available in the world today. You can achieve more in eight hours of Pure Hypnoanalysis, than four years of traditional psychotherapy. The rapid nature of the therapy (just 8-12 sessions) means that anyone, from any background, can now have access to this amazing life-changing intervention. Have a look at some of Rob's hypnotherapy testimonials, to see just how effective this treatment is.
